Undoubtedly the Best Hostel in Tokyo

With Japan starting to open its borders to tourists again, it is inevitable that people are going to start to wonder about what accommodation to pick when visiting. So, we are going to tell you about the best hostel in Tokyo. Before we begin, we thought we should mention that this post in is no was sponsored, nor have we been given ANYTHING to talk about this place. We just wholeheartedly believe that K’s House is the best accommodation to choose when you next go to Tokyo, and we will tell you why…

We stayed at K’s House on our first trip to Japan in 2019. K’s House Tokyo Oasis is a hostel located in Asakusa in Tokyo. It is located down a small street, and honestly if you weren’t looking for it you would probably miss it.

The first reason why this is the best place in Tokyo is the location. This hostel is located about a 3-minute walk away from Asakusa Station, so it is extremely convenient to get around using public transport. Similarly, it is only a 3-minute walk in the other direction to the famous Sensoji Temple, and one of the best cultural hubs in Tokyo. This location also offers easy access to konbini’s such as Family Mart, 30 meters away, and some of the best street food we had in Japan.

Another great feature of this hostel is that it offers multiple accommodation styles to appeal to any traveller. K’s House has dormitory rooms, great for backpackers on a budget who are wanting to make new friends while traveling. They also have private rooms, which is what we opted for during our stay. The private double room we chose came with a private ensuite and had absolutely everything we needed for our stay: a comfortable double bed, a shower, toilet, sink, heater, and even cute little cushions to sit on (zabuton). They also have twin rooms for if you are staying with a friend or family member, and also family specific rooms where you can house the whole gang.

Outside of the room facilities, the hostel also has great communal areas. There is a Japanese style common area, making a great place to hang out with larger groups of people. They also have a full equipped kitchen and a common lounge space. When we stayed in winter, they placed a heater underneath the sitting area, so all of the warmth was trapped under the blanket on our laps- amazing!

As great as the room we stayed in was, and it definitely was, the main reason why we would say that this is a must stay place in Tokyo was the staff. The people that worked here could not have been more nice and helpful during our stay. When we asked the best way to get to Disneyland, they printed off maps for us and drew out the route we should take on the metro. When we wanted to book a dining experience, but needed a Japanese phone number, they called up and booked it in their name. They were absolutely amazing and great to talk to. We were fascinated about everything they had to tell us about Japan, and they loved when we told them facts about Australia.

We had another trip booked to Japan when the pandemic hit. But because we were so sure that we loved K’s House, we had booked the ‘non-refundable’ option (bummer). Now this was before the travel insurance companies were covering lost travel expenses due to Covid, but I thought I would try my luck to reach out to the hotel directly.

I sheepishly sent an email, asking if they would refund our accommodation costs, while acknowledging that we knew they had absolutely no obligation to do so. Within a day, they had emailed us back, provided a full refund, sent us well-wishes, and said that they hoped to see us again on our next trip to Tokyo. Cue tears…

We are certain the people that work here are the nicest people on the planet and cannot wait until we are able to visit again. If you are planning a trip to Tokyo, we would highly suggest considering this place. They also have options to exchange doing chores around the hostel with free accommodation. A deal we will definitely be capitalising on in the future…
